ABOUT US

Martena & Paul have both been working with young people for several years.They have considerable employment experience of recruiting, managing & training new employees in the public & private sector & of working with Work Experience students. Martena has been a volunteer with the Probation Service, the National Youth Offender Panel & the YMCA. Paul is a parent governor at a local school.We both have families & believe that self-confidence, planning for the future & flexibility are essential for todays' changing work environment

PRIORITIES FOR SCHOOLS & COLLEGES.

What are the priorities for your school/college to enable it to attract new students & maintain adequate funding?

Do you want a positive image?, great results?, good attendance?, less conflict, bullying & stress?, mature committed students with a well rounded education ? A Positive Choice offers the 'Going Somewhere' interactive programme for teachers & students which can involve the whole school & the local community.

We also offer coaching for small groups or One to One confidential coaching for students, teachers & staff.

'GOING SOMEWHERE'- A 3 PART PROGRAMME FOR TEACHERS & STUDENTS

This is an interactive programme which can involve teachers & students, the whole school or the community.

It is aimed at students in Year 10 (14-16) & their teachers & aims to build confidence & motivation & develop a sense of direction.

It is especially useful for students who are not achieving their potential or who have difficulties in participating.

It has been designed as part of the 'Working Together' initiative but Parts 1 & 2 can be used as 'stand alone' training modules if required. The intention is to use the skills developed to benefit the whole school and/or community & to enable the teachers & students taking part to enhance mentoring/coaching skills for their CVs.

PART 1 'A POSITIVE CLASSROOM'

THIS IS FOR TEACHING STAFF. It is a busy half day interactive workshop to help teachers create a more positive, dynamic classroom by understanding student motives & what makes the student want to be more responsible & productive.

PART 2 'A POSITIVE DIRECTION'

THIS IS FOR YEAR 10 STUDENTS. It is a one day interactive workshop to instil co-operation & organisation & peer support. It encourages students to develop ideas & put them into practice & offers a challenge to the individual & to the team. All of these are positive attributes both for school/college & for a future life & career.' Going Somewhere' as opposed to 'going nowhere' is about appreciating diverse qualities & skills in yourself & others. It is about building self awareness & confidence which the student will be able to apply to motivate their future life.

PART 3 'POSITIVE TEAMS'

This one day project based workshop brings together the teacher & student participants in Parts 1 & 2. It aims to foster a co-operative style & a practical project idea which will be of future benefit to the school or community. It will enable the students to use their skills to work together to develop & mentor it to a conclusion.

COACHING FOR STUDENTS, TEACHERS & STAFF

A Positive Choice is also pleased to offer Personal Develoment Coaching- either confidential One to One meetings or coaching in small groups on specific subjects ( maximum 6)

We coach on:-

Reducing Stress:- How to recognise stress in yourself or others, the impact of stress on health, work & study, relationships & life in general/ How to reduce & control stress.

Conflict/Bullying at home or school:-how to reduce conflict, the impact on the victim, the bully, the general morale of the community. Confidential coaching or mediation is offered on a one to one basis if required.

Study Support:- Your personal learning style & how to use it, managing your time effectively, motivation techniques, a plan to succeed.

Leadership skills

One to One coaching can be arranged either privately or through the school.

Students below aged 18 must have parental consent to coaching & a chaperone on the premises.
